The Guestbook I’m starting to wonder if my guestbook is ever going to be used again. I’m also toying with the idea of changing my template again. It’s been a while, and it’s time for a change. Current Events There are so many issues flying around in the news right now: WMD I support the majority of what G.W. has done. I believe that tax cuts improve the economy as well as increase federal revenues. I think our approach on terrorism is right. And WMD or no WMD, taking Saddam out was the right thing to do. It should have been done 13 years ago. However I don’t like the spending they are doing. I have a little bit of a problem with the immigration thing because it’s not fair to those who are here legitimately. The Medicare thing was a noble thing to do, but not exactly conservative in its approach, which annoys me somewhat. I still contend that allowing more privatization will increase competition, and dive costs down. Conservatism at its core is about rugged individualism. Opportunity for the private sector to engage in the things that the government has ownership of will not only decrease government spending, but will also create jobs, federal revenues, and drive down costs by creating competition. Something like Medicare existing only guarantees increasing costs because it is controlled by one central entity: The Government. There is no competition, and costs are dictated by law to suppliers. So I think Bush was dead wrong on this issue. But in all fairness the moveon.org Bush parody ad of the State of The Union speech, and him pulling the rug out from under seniors is a little over the top . Seniors certainly are better off than before the bill was passed, and of course he passed the bill to help out his huge contributors at the drug companies. (cough) The part that kills me is where they say that seniors are prevented from buying ‘cheaper drugs’ from Canada. It seems that moveon.org is MISLEADING their viewers with this commercial. The truth is that “The federal Medicare Prescription Drug Act signed by President Bush, lets pharmacists and wholesalers import drugs from Canada — but only with the approval of the secretary of Health and Human Services.” SOURCE The only reason that provision was put in there was to ensure some controls on drugs coming into the country for safeties sake. There have been reports of drugs not meeting certain standards. W has outspent Clinton on the domestic side, and like any other conservative, it bugs me. Stopping to think… In times past I used to get so passionate about my stance on things, and would spend extraordinary amounts of time researching and debating them. Truthfully, I don’t have the heart (or the time) to anymore; which is why I’ve been silent on such things for a while. When it comes to spiritual and scriptural things I feel differently of course, but politics really just bore me anymore. Really, I’m just really tired of arguing about it. The discussions are usually polarized and full of pointless rhetoric that really contains no new point of view, or any open mindedness on either part for that matter. It’s all just dead letter barking done in an attempt to make one person look more superior to another. Vanity I say; it’s all vanity. In Other News… Not much really. Things have been rather status quo. The test went well… I think anyway. I find out for sure on Monday. ~Rick
